MSFP High Level Diplomats Team Visits RIMS-Nepal Led Working Areas

A team of high level diplomats of the Multi Stakeholder Forestry Project (MSFP) funding agencies, representatives from MoFSC, MSFP/PCO accompanied MSFP-SSU visited RIMS-Nepal led Lot III of MSFP working area in 2-4 March 2016. The objective of the visit was to get ensight on the progress acheived so far. The team consisted of; Mr. Pekka Seppälä (Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Finland), Mr. Chudamani Joshi (Special Advisor, Embassy of Finland), Ms. Angela Seppälä (Embassy of Finland), Ms. Sannakaisa Janhonen (Associate officer, Embassy of Finland), Mr. Deipak Elmer (Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Switzerland/SDC), Ms. Manohara Khadka (SPO, Embassy of Switzerland/SDC), Mr. Khadanand Sharma (Deputy Regional Forest Director, MoFSC), Mr. Sudhir Koirala (NPC, MSFP-PCO), Mr. Biswas Rana (Planning and Monitoring Manager, MSFP-SSU). During the first day of the visit, the team interacted with District Forest Sector Coordination Committee (DFSCC) members of Kapilvastu district. The team has open interaction with the beneficiaries of Garib Nawaj PLMG of Mahuwa VDC, supported for livelihood promotion through agro-forestry intervention. The team then visited Kapilvastu Collaborative Forest Management for observing scientific forest management techniques applied on the ground, which included regeneration felling, fire line construction, observation of encroachment control and plantation. Later, the team has interaction with its Executive Committee members and beneficiaries on issues like employment and inclusion of distance forest users. The visit continued with observation of forest development in private land in Khaireni, Rupandehi, the following day. Similarly, the visit team has interaction with the private tree owner and executive members of private forest tree growers' network to update on network status and its contribution to forestry sector development. Before returning back, the visiting team had dialogue with BuCCI, Rupandehi to get an update on the collaborative efforts of District Chamber of Commerce and Industry and MSFP, and its future potentialities.
